Laura creates art that is emotive, exploring feelings of anxiety, peace, love, grief, certainty and uncertainty , hope and joy. Laura’s mission is to enable others to create art through simple accessible ways, to improve their wellbeing and mental health.

Alongside Laura’s practise, she has developed and led her nature inspired art workshops for The Garden Museum, Hackney Arts Charity, Hospital Rooms and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Laura has created and led nature inspired art workshops in primary schools, for ages 3-11.

Laura is currently developing a series of accessible art workshops for mothers to help explore emotions throughout motherhood, and improve their wellbeing and mental health, after she herself experienced maternal mental health issues. Alongside support from the NHS, she also found that the simple, meditative use of mark making helped and is now working on delivering workshops in the borough of Waltham Forest.

“My work is influenced by the idea of pausing to be present in moments of nature and finding joy in everyday life.

Living in London, I have sought time with nature more and more and have cherished even small moments.

This notion of being present translates itself in the studio as I get into a state of flow and become totally present in creating painterly marks and colour-filled pieces."

About the work:

Laura Gee creates art that feels like an emotional landscape , layered, instinctive, and deeply connected to nature, memory, and wellbeing. Her paintings blend abstract mark-making with vibrant colour fields, creating works that sit between observation and feeling. Rather than depicting nature literally, she captures its emotional residue: the calm of gardens, the movement of water, the warmth of sunlight, and the quiet intimacy of everyday moments.

A defining quality of her work is its balance between spontaneity and tenderness. Loose painterly gestures and textured surfaces give her paintings energy and movement, while soft palettes and organic forms create a sense of comfort and reflection. Themes of motherhood, mental health, hope, anxiety, and healing run throughout her practice, making the work feel both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Her art is also rooted in mindfulness. Gee often speaks about “slowing down” and finding beauty in ordinary experiences flowers at a market, a familiar garden, changing seasons, or light moving through a room. This transforms her paintings into more than decorative abstractions; they become spaces for pause, emotional release, and reconnection.

Stylistically, her work sits between contemporary abstraction and expressive landscape painting. The combination of acrylic, oil pastel, gestural brushwork, and layered colour creates paintings that feel alive and immersive. Even in their abstraction, they maintain warmth and accessibility, which explains why her work has been successfully used in hospitals and wellbeing-focused public spaces.
